Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) for Nervous System Regulation

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP): A Polyvagal-Based Therapy for Nervous System Regulation and Emotional Well-Being

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based therapeutic listening program created by Dr. Stephen Porges, grounded in the principles of Polyvagal Theory. This innovative intervention is designed to help individuals regulate their nervous system, enhance emotional resilience, and improve overall mental and physical well-being. By promoting a sense of safety, social connection, and calm, the SSP supports recovery from stress, anxiety, trauma, and other challenges related to autonomic nervous system dysregulation.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a music-based therapeutic intervention that uses specially filtered sound frequencies to gently stimulate the vagus nerve and its middle ear branch, supporting nervous system regulation. By gradually delivering auditory cues of safety, SSP helps the body shift from chronic fight, flight, or freeze states into a state of calm, connection, and emotional resilience.

Who Can Benefit from SSP?

A Gentle Approach to Healing

SSP is designed to be a gentle and gradual process, often integrated with other therapeutic approaches. By helping the nervous system feel safer, it enhances the ability to engage in relationships, therapy, and daily life with greater ease.

Understanding the nervous system is a key step toward healing. With the right tools, like SSP, we can foster greater self-regulation, emotional balance, and overall well-being.

I am a trained and certified provider of the SSP.  This can be utilized either as a stand alone adjunct to your current therapy, integrated with therapy I provide, or utilized as a part of my coaching program offering.  Please reach out for more information on how this comprehensive therapy can benefit you.  See the link below for more information.
